Lance Reddick, perhaps best known for his portrayal of Cedric Daniels in The Wire (2002-2008) sadly passed away in his home earlier this year, at the age of 60. Reddick’s prolific career has made an impact on many people, with many communities mourning the loss of such an important figure in their respective mediums.

Horizon Forbidden West, where Reddick’s character, Sylens, plays a pivotal role in the game’s narrative, has had a memorial added into it to “commemorate the profound impact he had on us all,” according to a tweet from the game’s developer, Guerrilla.

The memorial was placed in the game’s recent expansion, Burning Shores, where players can find the tribute on Widemaw Island, where the expansion’s narrative begins.

The conclusion to Burning Shores would lead one to believe that Reddick’s Sylens would play a major role in the sequel to Horizon Forbidden West, but given the circumstances it is unclear how Guerrilla would proceed with this. Unlike other projects, such as Bungie’s Destiny 2, with Reddick’s portrayal of Commander Zavala, no lines would have been recorded and such, the trajectory of the game’s narrative may be required to shift substantially in order to accommodate for the loss of Reddick.

“Thank you, Lance, for everything you brought to the role of Sylens: your gravitas, energy, wisdom and more. An incomparable talent and friend. We miss you terribly,” the studio said.
